About Us

Gangs, drug dealers, prostitution, alcoholism, low-income American families in conflict and undocumented residents are the image of a city in need, the city of Compton in Los Angeles CA. For many pastors it is not the place to do church "you need a bulletproof vest", a high risk. For a graduate seminarian (2003), with his family, passionate about the mission of the church was the ideal place to plant the Kingdom of God, in an old Lutheran church building that would soon be demolished, he initiated the new organization of the People of God church (This May 27, on the Day of Pentecostal, after being a Mission for nine years, People of God will become a Congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.) SHARING WITH LOVE AND JUSTICE Pastor Samuel Nieva, after working in South Central Los Angeles with the coalition of Lutheran churches called New City Parish, planting Hispanic Lutheran missions, decided to move to Compton, his mission of theological critierio is based on a prayer, which says: "SHARING THE SPIRITUAL AND MATERIAL BREAD." People of God believe in the Integral Mission of the church (Holistic Ministry), says Pastor Samuel: "We cannot speak of the Word of God and the sacraments if they do not share the presence of Jesus with love and justice and a plate of food, a piece of cloth or social action. A story to remember, Benita Polanco is a mother who one day came in search of support with her seven children, now she is our director of social ministry of the church that every Thursday feeds about 60 families in the community. Pueblo de Dios has a sewing school, to develop qualified people in the garment industry. It has links with community clinics to ensure the health of the neighborhood, many of its members are community workers as health promoters. ALL THAT YOU BREATHE PRAISE BE TO GOD... People of God have a joyful worship of God, liturgical, contemporary and Latin blend into a vibrant cult. Ana Nieva (Director of Liturgy and Christian Education) is constantly training new musicians. Every Sunday the message is direct and radical "God's time has come, the kingdom of God is here, turn to God and believe in His Word" Mark 1:15 MAKE DISCIPLES God's people have found ways to be a missionary church. We currently have 2 seminarians who are studying at a theological institute (CHET) to plant missions and then be pastors. People of God uses the Southern California Lutheran Cursillo as a way to provoke the leadership initiative of its members.  People of God uses a 3DM (Discipleship Culture) tool whose goal is "disciples making disciples." We have made the work of the church much simpler and the life of a believer less complicated. The disciples are the Church, extending the Kingdom of God. A NEW MISSION IN SOUTH CENTRAL LOS ANGELES We have plans to start a new Lutheran urban mission in South Central. Couples Juan Díaz and Gabriela Díaz-Cueni are our new missionaries. after this difficult time of coronavirus, we will be looking for a special place in South Central.

Our Mission

St. Augustine

We believe that the door to salvation is always open and so are the doors to our church. Our mission is to be fully devoted to Jesus by opening our arms to those in search of the truth. We show God’s love and concern for our fellow man at every opportunity. Through works of charity and opening our doors to listen and love, we feel that we are walking in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
